Why Pearl Sextant

What we do differently

Designed for adult learners

The material assumes no financial background and no prior investment experience. It does assume that you are a thoughtful adult who reads carefully and asks good questions.

Specific to Hong Kong

Everything taught is anchored to the actual structure of the Hong Kong market — not generic global finance theory adapted from elsewhere.

No stock recommendations

We teach you to read and interpret — not what to buy. That distinction matters enormously, and we hold to it across all three courses.

Unhurried pace

Each session builds on the last without rushing. Courses are structured so that someone with a full working week can follow without feeling left behind.

Written feedback included

Participants in the Portfolio Construction Workshop receive individual written feedback on their allocation document — not just group discussion.

Education, not advice

Pearl Sextant is an education provider. Our courses are structured learning experiences, not financial planning services or investment advisory.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need any financial knowledge before joining?
No prior knowledge is assumed. Hang Seng Basics begins from first principles — what a stock is, how the exchange operates, and what the Hang Seng Index actually measures. Adults who have never held an equity account are welcome.
Are the courses delivered in English?
Yes. All course materials, sessions, and written feedback are in English. We aim for clear, plain English throughout — no unnecessary jargon, and any technical terms are explained in context when first used.
How many people are in each course?
Groups are kept deliberately small — typically between eight and fourteen participants. This allows for genuine discussion and means your questions get addressed rather than deferred.
Will the courses tell me which stocks to buy?
No, and this is a firm boundary. We teach structure, literacy, and thinking frameworks. Stock selection is not part of any programme. If you are looking for tips or recommendations, our courses are probably not what you need.
Can I take the courses in any order?
Each course is designed to stand alone, but the progression from Hang Seng Basics through HK Equities for the Long View to the Portfolio Construction Workshop is the most natural route. We suggest beginning with Hang Seng Basics if you are new to the local market.
What are the fees and how do I pay?
Fees are HKD 1,620 for Hang Seng Basics, HKD 2,480 for HK Equities for the Long View, and HKD 3,120 for the Portfolio Construction Workshop. Payment details are provided after enrolment confirmation. We accept bank transfer and major credit cards.
Where are sessions held?
Sessions are held at our Wan Chai premises at 15/F, Harbour East, 280 Gloucester Road. The building is close to Wan Chai MTR station. Some supplementary materials are provided digitally between sessions.
