What a well-structured course actually gives you.
The case for taking a course rather than reading articles, browsing forums, or waiting until it feels urgent — and why the specifics of how a course is designed matter considerably.
HomeSix things that make the difference
Built entirely around Hong Kong
Every example, every reference, every case study is drawn from the actual Hong Kong market. There is no adaptation of a course designed elsewhere.
Instructors with market experience
Teaching is led by people with careers in local equity research and corporate finance. The knowledge is specific and comes from working inside the market, not from studying it at a distance.
Small, capped cohorts
Fourteen participants maximum. Questions are answered in the session, not deferred. The format supports genuine discussion rather than passive listening.
Written individual feedback
Participants in the Portfolio Construction Workshop receive written feedback on their allocation document — a level of individual attention that group formats typically cannot provide.
Pace calibrated to working adults
The schedule and workload are designed around people who have full professional and personal lives. Sessions do not assume preparation time that most adults cannot realistically find.
No advisory content
The educational boundary is kept clearly. Understanding the market is the goal. What to do with that understanding is the participant's own decision, made outside the course.
Expertise grounded in the local market
The instructors at Pearl Sextant have backgrounds in Hong Kong equity research and corporate finance. They have followed the Hang Seng Index through multiple cycles, worked with HK-listed companies, and spent their professional lives reading the same financial documents the courses teach participants to read.
That proximity to the market — not as observers but as practitioners — gives the teaching a depth that general financial education material cannot replicate. When a case study discusses how a Hong Kong company reports its financials, the instructor has read hundreds of such reports professionally.
What this means for participants
- Questions answered from experience, not from text
- Examples drawn from actual local companies
- Nuances of the HK market explained as they occur in practice
- Honest assessment of where certainty ends and judgement begins
A coherent progression
- Hang Seng Basics builds the structural vocabulary
- HK Equities for the Long View adds analytical depth
- Portfolio Construction Workshop applies the full picture
- Each course stands alone for those entering mid-sequence
A process that builds on itself
The three Pearl Sextant courses are structured to build on each other. The vocabulary introduced in Hang Seng Basics is assumed in HK Equities for the Long View; the analytical framework developed there is applied directly in the Portfolio Construction Workshop.
Participants who take the courses in sequence find that the later programmes reward the earlier ones — what felt abstract in the first course becomes concrete when applied in the third. The progression is deliberate, not incidental.
Customer service that operates at human scale
Because cohort sizes are capped, the programme coordinator knows every participant by name. Questions sent by email are answered within one working day. Scheduling concerns are handled individually rather than through an automated system.
This is not a feature added on; it is a consequence of keeping the operation deliberately small. Pearl Sextant does not run dozens of parallel cohorts. The focus remains on the people enrolled in the current programme.
How support works
- Email responses within one working day
- Direct access to the programme coordinator
- Pre-enrolment consultations available by phone
- Written feedback on submitted work in the workshop
What the fee covers
- All course sessions and written materials
- Digital supplements between sessions
- Written feedback (Portfolio Construction Workshop)
- Group review session at course close
- No add-ons, no upsells, no separate charges
Clear, contained pricing
The three courses are priced at HKD 1,620, HKD 2,480, and HKD 3,120 respectively. Those figures cover everything. There are no additional material costs, no platform subscriptions, and no continuation packages.
We are aware that much financial education operates on a recurring revenue model where the core offering is the beginning of a longer commercial relationship. Pearl Sextant is not structured that way. A course is a contained experience with a clear end point.

Features you will not find everywhere
Your own written allocation plan
The Portfolio Construction Workshop produces a real output: a written allocation document tailored to your situation, with individual written feedback from the instructors. Not a template filled in during class — a document you develop and refine over ten weeks.
Group review as part of the process
The final session of each course is a structured group conversation — not a lecture. Participants reflect on what the material has changed in how they read market information. This is where the learning often consolidates.
Teaching that references Hong Kong law and regulation
Courses cover how the SFC operates, what listing rules mean for disclosure, and how the regulatory environment shapes the information that reaches investors. This context is inseparable from understanding the market itself.
Comfortable for those starting late
Adults who come to market education in their 40s or 50s sometimes feel they have missed the window. Pearl Sextant courses are written for exactly that starting point. There is no assumption of earlier familiarity, and there is nothing to catch up on.
